WELD PASS ESTIMATOR

Planning estimate for the approximate number of passes to fill a joint. Number of passes = required deposited area ÷ average deposited area per pass. Actual pass count must follow the qualified WPS.

PLANNING ESTIMATE

Choose a mode and estimate. Example: Calculated groove area 128 mm² ÷ assumed 32 mm²/pass → Estimated minimum 4 passes.

FORMULA & ASSUMPTIONS

Number of passes ≈ Required deposited cross-sectional area ÷ Average deposited cross-sectional area per pass — rounded upward for planning. For fillets, ideal area ≈ leg² / 2. Groove area derives from thickness, angle, root opening/face and reinforcement where entered.

Actual pass count depends on: welding process, wire/electrode diameter, position, parameter range, bead shape, joint accessibility, root technique, WPS requirements, heat-input/interpass control, welder technique, required penetration, layer sequence. This tool does not produce a qualified pass sequence.

PLANNING ESTIMATE — Actual production pass count must follow the applicable qualified WPS.
