Decision Support — Troubleshooting

WELDING PARAMETER TROUBLESHOOTER

Start from the observed symptom and work through process-specific checks. This is a diagnostic aid, not an acceptance calculator — correct one variable at a time and verify against your WPS, consumable data sheet, and equipment manual.

DIAGNOSIS

Select a process and symptom, then choose Diagnose Symptom. Results are grouped from highest-probability checks to equipment verification. Correct one variable at a time.

METHOD & LIMITS

Troubleshooting is directional, not prescriptive. Never apply a fixed correction such as "increase voltage by 2 V" without a verified data source. Use increase / decrease / shorten / lengthen / inspect / verify and explain why. A single symptom can have multiple causes — isolate each variable.

Logic is process-aware: FCAW-S suppresses external gas checks; GTAW suppresses wire-feed checks unless filler feeding is relevant; SMAW suppresses shielding-gas flow. Always verify the result against the applicable WPS, consumable data sheet, equipment manual, and governing acceptance criteria.
